vision

The vision of Notes by Alex is to prepare notetakers to be hospitable in making their loved ones feel welcome and loved whenever they are around.

There will be a day where people will seek to bring others into their homes and lives to bear one another’s burdens and help each other grow. Through simple means such as learning to cook crowd-pleasing meals and hosting gatherings for people, you will learn how to make your space welcoming for all whom enter, no matter how big or small.

Hospitality is simply love on the loose.

Joan D. Chittister

I have always loved the idea of hosting. Since I was young, I always loved having my friends over my house eating the same delicious meals that my mom made and living life together as friends. There was a profound growth of this love in my later years of college where I would love hosting gatherings in our dorm suite. I remember at one point, my roommates and I hosted a game night which crammed 15 or so people into our small common area. We would also have other events, like movie nights and philosophical conversations.

When I moved into my first apartment, I wanted it to be a space where people could come over for events. I love having out-of-town friends staying over at my place where we could spend quality time together doing everything or nothing. We could be making a bunch of food, going on a picnic, or just watching YouTube videos. I also love to host regular events at my place for people to catch up and get to know one another while laughing and conversing about or lives.

Hospitality is not just entertaining. While that may be a part of it, the true goal is hospitality is to form a connection. When I host, I’m not always focused on the entertaining and making sure that everything is perfect. What I want is for my loved ones to fee safe and at home when they are with me. I want them to have a sense of home and family in a place which will grow to be more familiar to them each time they enter. My vision is to have my friends enter my house and eat my food as if they live there because they feel safe and like they belong. They will come in, relax, and feel comfort as they would in their own homes. Like the famous express goes Mi casa es tu casa (My house is your house).
