Mi casa es tu casa is one of the most profound statements that even the youngest of kids can understand. It’s all about hospitality. My home is your home. This attitude is what turns guests into family. I’m Alex: Christian, teacher, voice actor, event planner, writer, blogger, and lover of hospitality.
In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a home full with the people you love, in my opinion. When my friends and family enter my home, I wish it to be a safe space. I seek for my home to be a place where the weary can let a load off and relax. It’s a space for good food, meaningful conversations, and love.
my biography
All my life, I have been inspired by hospitable people. Some of my fondest memories of my youth are the events that my mom and aunt hosted, such as memorable Thanksgiving feasts and Independence Day cookouts. They have hospitable hearts miles beyond what I had ever seen. When my mother and I moved to Virginia, I became a fast friend with one of the neighbor kids. We quickly became best friends, but a few years later, his family was moving away. My mother gathered many of their friends and loved ones and hosted a going away party. This helped form my love for showing hospitality and love to others.
This spreads to other areas of my life. I am a high school teacher, and the love I have for my students, their parents, and my colleagues can only be described as that of a family. I am thankful to be surrounded by people where we are unified already under the same beliefs (our Christian faith and love for God). We find ways to serve one another and share love that is not seen in other workplaces. I have the most hospitable colleagues in the world who lift each other up. I have had coworkers make food for me, and likewise, I have share food with coworkers. Parents have gifted my colleagues and I the most wonderful gifts.
I am beyond blessed to see such hospitality on a daily basis. This is something that I wish for the rest of the world. The world needs to know hospitality that will open its doors to those whom it loves. To see those close to you as family, that is the hope. My Christian faith teaches me more about the importance of doing this, and we see various examples in Scripture about this. I want you to partner with me in this. You, reader, are an essential part of this goal. I will regularly post content to share my unique experiences and capabilities to help with hospitality, but it is up to you to find the ways best suited to your personality to show hospitality to others.

the history of notes by alex
I started Notes by Alex as a personal blog when I was student teaching as a way to release the stress and relax. I would share anything I felt like. It was a blog for myself. I would post, recipes, lessons I learned from student teaching, and advice I would have for other young adults in my stage of life. At some point, I ceased posting after becoming busy with my first-year of teaching.
In January 2021, I picked back up where I left off with a new desire. It was a strange year in 2020 with more division and separation than I had ever seen. I wanted to encourage people to become hospitable, loving, and unified. Notes by Alex changed from a personal blog to a way of spreading these values. I began designing uplifting shirts of Amazon. Blogging once more became something that I enjoyed. I made a Pinterest and Instagram account to share inspiration and connect with others. What was once something personal and for me became something to effectuate change in difficult times.
After some time passed, I decided that I wanted this to be something more passive than active, and with my jobs as a teacher and voice actor keeping me busy, I made the decision to move back to this blog format as opposed to the notesbyalex.com website that I was running. With the change in form, I wanted to change the name from notes by alex to noteworthy (which is what I had once named the newsletter that I used to do).
